An evening breeze;
Behind a burst of fireworks —
The full July moon.

Who I wonder does see the moon, as well as the fireworks? The poet did. This hokku brings to mind in spirit the words attributed to Basho: “A haiku is like a finger pointing to the moon.
If the finger is bejeweled, we no longer see the moon.”
The full moon and the fireworks! This is a marvellous contrast between the stillness and quiet of the moon and the explosion of sound and light from the fireworks!
Thanks David. I wasn’t feeling like there was much to celebrate but I do appreciate this.
